DONOR PRIVACY POLICY
Marshalltown Area United Way (MAUW) values the trust its donors and other stakeholders place in the organization and adheres to the highest standards in gathering, using, and safeguarding donor information. This includes all of the donor's personal and gift information.
The information we collect
Completed pledge cards/forms, either online or hard copy, will ask that you to provide your name, address, e-mail address, and gift information. MAUW recognizes the sensitivity in providing this personal information and therefore will not rent, trade, or sell any information about its donors. Information may be shared with campaign volunteers to assist in making follow-up calls or thanking donors for their gifts unless a donor wishes to remain anonymous and notes that on the pledge card/form. Information will not be shared except in the following limited circumstances:
- We have your permission to share the information
- We are authorized to do so under this privacy statement
- We are required by law to disclose your information; or to protect against fraud or illegal activity
Access to the information
MAUW employees and volunteers who may access your information to perform pledge processing and administrative functions. Each individual is educated on the importance of protecting the policy and are prohibited from disclosing your information. Organizations that provide operational or other support services to us must also agree to safeguard your information in strict compliance with our privacy policy. Electronic record retention is throughout the life of the donor and paper record retention is set forth by our auditing company.
Your participation is voluntary
Your relationship with MAUW is voluntary and confidential. We use your information to send you acknowledgement of your gift and information that may be interest about us. If you do not wish to receive such communications, you may let us know at any time by contacting MAUW. In addition, you may choose to not receive emails from MAUW by contacting the office.
Our commitment to data security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect. Firewalls prevent outside parties from accessing our database and internal MAUW access to the database is restricted to authorized staff.
Website security
Users can visit our website without revealing any personal information. Our website does not use “cookies”. Google Analytics only gathers usage information such as the number and frequency of visitors to the website. We use this data only in the aggregate. This collective data helps us determine how much our customers access parts of the site to make improvements. Our website provider utilizes the AWS Cloud platform ensuring security compliance, automated scaling, and optimization. AWS employs a robust physical security program with multiple certifications, including an SSAE 16 certification, SOC 1/SOC2 Type 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS. Additionally, our website provider installs and maintains the latest stable OS versioning and provides security updates and patches as needed to maintain a secure environment. If you choose to provide personal information (ie: Registration to events) to us via the website, we use that information for internal purposes only, and we maintain appropriate security measures to keep this information private.
