Marshalltown Area United Way

Diversity Policy

Diversity is the uniqueness each of us brings to our community. Underlying the role and mission of the Marshalltown Area United Way, (MAUW) is a firm belief in the dignity of all people. We reaffirm this belief in our policies, which guide and direct our employment practices, program funding, and volunteer recruitment. The intent of this policy is to recognize and support the value of diversity in the community.

We explicitly denounce racism/ethnic discrimination because it undermines the well-being and vitality of our communities. To demonstrate our commitment to diversity the MAUW will provide equal opportunity to all people without regard to age, race, color, creed, gender, religion, disability, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.

Diversity and Employment:
The MAUW is fully committed to assuring equal opportunity and equal consideration to all qualified applicants and employees in personnel matters including recruitment, hiring, training, promotions, salaries and other compensation, transfers, layoffs, or terminations.

In the implementation of this policy, the MAUW will seek personnel for all job levels within the organization without regard to age, race, color, creed, gender, religion, disability, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.

Diversity and Program Funding:
The MAUW is fully committed to the funding of programs that provide equal opportunity and access for all. Although the MAUW will continue to provide funding to programs that target specific populations, those programs supported by United Way funds must be open to all people within that targeted population.

Except where an agency is specifically targeting an approved population and is open to all within that target area, the MAUW will give funding preference to those programs that demonstrate a commitment to provide service without regard to age, race, color, creed, gender, religion, disability, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.

Diversity and Volunteer Recruitment:
The MAUW is fully committed to the recruitment of volunteers who reflect the diversity of our community. The MAUW will seek volunteers without regard to age, race, color, creed, gender, religion, disability, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.
